On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met the delegates of the EURONEST
Parliamentary Assembly.
The parties discussed the issues related to the organization of the constituent conference of EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Brussels on May 3, 2011.
V.Lytvyn attaches great importance to the initiation of the parliamentary component of the Eastern Partnership. He believes that it should foster the dialogue, settle the issues facing the European community in general and every country in particular, and consolidate Europe as a global player.
Commenting upon the participation of Belarus in this program, the Head of the Parliament stated, "Policy of involvement is much better than the policy of isolation." In this context he suggested that Ukraine could be mediator in the settlement of issues concerning format of participation of Belarus in the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly. V.Lytvyn suggests holding another round of negotiations on this topic with the participation of the Eastern Partnership member states.
Christian Vigenin, Head of the European Parliament delegation in the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly, declared that Ukraine would play a meaningful role in this program. He expects the launch of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly to boost cooperation of the European Union with the Eastern Partnership member states.
V.Lytvyn supposes that the constitutional documents should fix the European prospects of the Eastern Partnership member states. He believes that the European Union should follow the policy of encouraging these states to the European affairs. The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada considers it as a powerful driving force of the active work of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly.
